As a company engaged in planting and fertilizing, PT Pupuk Kalimantan Timur participates in cultivation efforts to obtain superior seeds. To obtain superior seeds, one method is tissue culture, which is a technology to propagate seeds in a short time with a high level of uniformity.
Tissue culture is also the Company's effort to propagate rare or endemic plants that are difficult to propagate by conventional methods. Some plants that the Company develops through tissue culture techniques are not limited to various types of orchids, but also other economically valuable plants such as bananas, potatoes, kopyor coconuts, and so on.
The tissue culture method itself involves isolating plant parts such as cell groups or tissues (leaves, roots, stems, shoots, etc.) and cultivating them in a controlled in vitro and aseptic environment. Techniques and media formulations differ for each plant, considering that each plant has a different and unique anatomy.
Therefore, knowledge of tissue culture is very helpful to study as it can be an alternative to conventional planting.
