Agrosolution Farmers' Meeting, Pupuk Kaltim Promotes Sustainable Food Security in Kupang

PT Pupuk Kalimantan Timur (Pupuk Kaltim) continues to strengthen its strategic role in supporting national food security, through strengthening collaboration with farmers, local governments, and all stakeholders in the agricultural sector. This commitment was reaffirmed at the 2026 Agrosolution Program Food Security Farmers' Meeting in Kupang Regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) recently.

Present on the occasion were Pupuk Kaltim Commissioners, Gustaaf AC Patty and Sukardi Rinakit, as a concrete step by the company to encourage areas with dry land characteristics such as Kupang Regency, which has great potential to be developed as one of the pillars of food security in eastern Indonesia.

Gustaaf AC Patty explained that the farmers' meeting serves as a strategic forum and a constructive dialogue space between Pupuk Kaltim and all stakeholders, regarding various challenges and opportunities for developing sustainable agriculture based on the real conditions of farmers.

This is because Kupang Regency has enormous agricultural potential, especially in rice production and superior commodities that play an important role in food supply stability. Therefore, a resilient, efficient, and adaptive agricultural system needs to be built in the long term through multi-party synergy, to be able to answer the challenges and dynamics of food needs in society.

"This is in line with the direction of Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, that food sovereignty is not an option, but a necessity. For Pupuk Kaltim, this spirit is an important foundation for carrying out its role through the Agrosolution program which continues to be strengthened from year to year," said Gustaaf.

He explained that Agrosolution is one of Pupuk Kaltim's strategic initiatives to provide more integrated and sustainable agricultural solutions. Not only focusing on fertilizer supply, Agrosolution also emphasizes a comprehensive approach starting from cultivation education, balanced fertilization, technical assistance, to strengthening productivity and efficiency of farming businesses.

"Through this approach, Pupuk Kaltim ensures that farmers not only gain access to agri-inputs but also a proper understanding of agricultural management without neglecting land sustainability in the long term," explained Gustaaf.

Sukardi Rinakit expressed a similar sentiment, stating that Pupuk Kaltim views food security as a national agenda that requires the involvement of all elements, including the fertilizer industry as a provider of important inputs for the cultivation sector. Therefore, the company believes that the success of agricultural programs cannot be built partially, but must be supported by multi-party synergy that strengthens each other.

Through Agrosolution, Kupang Regency has a great opportunity to become one of the success stories of agricultural development in dry land areas, so that in the future it can contribute more significantly to increasing regional and national food production.

"The challenge ahead is not only to maintain high agricultural productivity but also to ensure that these efforts do not sacrifice soil fertility. And through Agrosolution, we can implement that well," said Sukardi.

This commitment is in line with the direction of modern agricultural transformation that increasingly emphasizes efficient input use, increased yields, and preservation of land resources. The Agrosolution program can also bridge the practical needs of farmers with the vision of more competitive national agricultural development.

Especially with the current implementation, Agrosolution is able to optimally boost agricultural land productivity, compared to conventional management. This success is shown by the increased yields of community farming in various target areas, for several commodities such as food crops and horticulture.

Most recently, corn productivity in Maros Regency, South Sulawesi, drastically increased from an average of 2.5 tons per hectare to 6 tons per hectare, or a jump of about 140 percent. For this reason, Pupuk Kaltim invites all farmers to join the Agrosolution ecosystem, so that Kupang Regency's potential can contribute more significantly to national food security.

"By working together, the agricultural challenges that have been faced can be transformed into opportunities for improving farmers' welfare and strengthening the nation's food independence," added Sukardi.

Concrete support was also shown by Pupuk Kaltim with 500 Kilograms of urea assistance for local farmer groups. This product has been widely used in Indonesia, one of which is Granular Urea which is known for its maintained quality with optimal nitrogen content, and ease of application in the field.

The granulation process produces uniform granules, so that urea does not easily clump and has good spreadability. These characteristics are very important in cultivation practices, as they can help distribute nutrients more evenly on the land. From these advantages, plants can absorb nitrogen efficiently according to their growth phase.

"This advantage makes Pupuk Kaltim's granular urea remain one of the primary choices for farmers in supporting plant productivity. However, the product alone is not enough without being accompanied by proper fertilization patterns. This is where Agrosolution plays a role through balanced fertilization education," concluded Sukardi.(*)
